Asus releases a new device. We’re not impressed.

Padfone is the new comer launched by Asus, a company best known for designing laptops but with an improved know-how in inventing new gadgets and devices. In terms of that, well, the results are quite debatable.

Asus introduced to the Americans the idea of PadFone X, a phone that transforms itself into a tablet. PadFone X Mini is basically their new born child, which looks and feels quite ordinary. PadFone X Mini is the second release of the PadFone series, as we also have the Max model, which is sharper and bigger.

The main benefit of this toy is its price. For $200, you have a mini cellphone that turns itself into a tablet. The phone alone is nice to hold and its relatively small size makes it very manageable.

The downside lays in its weight, compared to the iPhone 6 for instance, it’s huge. Adding the entire weight of the device to the phone, makes it even more uncomfortable. The 4.5 IPS screen features an 854 x 480 pixel resolution and looks a bit fuzzy.

The tablet’s piece of photographic cake comes with a better resolution though, of 1280 x 800 pixels.

The making of a phone and turning it into a tablet isn’t as easy and nice as Asus would like us to believe. All the power is packed into the phone portion and to use the tablet, you simply slide the phone into the dock. The dynamic display of Asus is supposed to transition whatever you had on the phone screen, to the tablet. Unfortunately, the majority of apps don’t support the feature, so they simply crash when you add the tablet part to the cellphone. Although most of the built-in apps work with dynamic display, you will notice a delay of 3 to 5 seconds every time you dock the tablet.

In terms of specks, the PadFone X Mini is powered by a 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Also, Asus packed 8 GB of storage into the smaller PadFone but it comes with a MicroSD card slot so you can expand the storage up to 64 GB.

The idea of a cellphone turning into a tablet is quite entertaining and if it comes packed in a decent price, it can become quite marvelous. But the idea is not everything, as its execution offer the value we’re looking for. PadFone X Mini has some more work to do as it only comes with an undoubtable price benefit.

Apple Pay will buy you dinner. Soon.

Times are changing. Fast. Starting October 20th, you might say goodbye for good to your wallet and take your iPhone everywhere with you. Apple recently invented Apple Pay, a new payment technology that gathered both pros and cons. It looks like this new system will roll out with iOS 8.1 that will get to us on October 20th.

Using Apple Pay you’ll no longer have to take a bulky wallet everywhere with you, in the back pocket of your trousers or in your slim purse. iPhone will be your new digital wallet. So go cover it with the best protective cases you can find.

What is all about? 

Things are simple. In theory, that is. Apple Pay service will run on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus on Apple Watch. The service uses Passbook credit card-storage app, TouchID security and NFC communication chip. It works by simply holding the handset up to a card reader and pressing the TouchID button that confirms the person’s identity and authorizes the payment.

As Apple puts it, all data are encrypted and payment info is secured. The service will also let users add pictures of their credit cards and add them into their Passbook accounts. Users can pay with their credit cards via Apple Pay only after the bank verifies the details provided to Passbook.

Pros and Cons

Apple claims that Apple Pay will make our life easier. That might be true, but this system also brings a major concern: could the payment info get cracked via an unprotected WiFi network/malware installed on the handset?
According to Apple, paying system uses Dynamic Security Codes through NFC chip that grant a secure communication between the phone and the reader. Plus it transmits Device Numbers and not credit cards number to the reader so not putting payment details at risk.

Anyway, we don’t know yet how the image of a credit card is stored securely on the handset. Most probably it would still be stored on an unsecured file that could get read by background “bugs”.
What about if the iPhone gets lost or stolen? Apple says users can break all payments using Find my iPhone service. In that case, credit cards would remain valid so user can get back to his/her old payment method.
Our advice: take care of your iPhone, secure it, buy the accessories it needs, as this will become your biggest friend. If it isn’t already.

Apple’s event announced a few days ago, displayed new products, upgrades and a new operating system that will make our lives easier.
One of the most important novelties is the new digital paying system – the so-called Apple Pay – that will roll-out as soon as Monday.
Apple Pay will join the market next to iOS 8.1, an important update granting access to iCloud Photo Library. The iCloud drive will let you store photos from all your devices online and comes to replace the Photo Stream. Yosemite, the new Apple OS announced a few days ago, is a beautiful, translucent working environment, easy to work on. It also gives you the possibility to move your files and work on from an Apple device to another without any painless effort.

During yesterday’s event other treats were revealed:

• the iPad Air 2: a powerful, very thin device with an A8x chip that makes it way faster than the first edition of iPad Air (with about 40%); this tablet also comes with a rear camera of 8 megapixels! The product is also equipped with the TouchID system, but this helps you only to make purchases online, not in the real life; or, at least, not yet.
• iPad Mini 3 is not that spectacular as iPad Air 2. Like the iPad Air 2, it displays a Touch ID sensor. Its rear camera is of only 5 megapixels, which is a bit disappointing, if we consider the 8 mpx camera that comes with the new iPad Air 2!
  Both tablet computers come in 3 shades: silver, space gray and gold.
• we now have the chance to test the new Mac with Retina display. This spectacular device has a 27-inch screen with a resolution of 14.7 million pixels – 7 times more pixels than any modern, high-definition set has. It’s also extremely thin with its 5 mm body.
• Mini Mac got updated too. It’s a lot faster and has a new Fusion drive that comes both with the new Mac and Mac mini. This technology provides a speedy and spacious alternative to other data storage systems, as you can read here.

Blackberry P’9983 by Porsche, a smartphone for the rich

This Blackberry is most probably the cellphone you’ll never own, as the price you need to pay for it equals two entirely new iPhones. However, for the few of you who like to roam around in the luxury league, Blackberry P’9983 is an option to consider. It’s not quite as exquisite as the opulent Vertu, but it’s not a common Samsung either.

The P’9983 is the third co-branded Porsche-BlackBerry smartphone to go on sale – the first of which sold 170,000 units in two years – and it’s really aimed at BlackBerry’s affluent professional user base.

First thing, it’s branded by Porsche. So there we have the very luxury stamp on it. It looks minimalistic and not very precious as far as the design is concerned, but it comes with a flawless communication platform, like Blackberry has accustomed us.

The Blackberry P’9983 is the first of the Porsche-Blackberry collaboration to include a physical QWERTY keyboard. The touch screen is 3.1 inches and has a 720 x 720 pixels resolution, along with QWERTY with glass like keys beneath.

It measures up to 119 x 67.1 x 10.6 mm so it’s not very slim, but pretty lightweight instead, with 140 grams.

The features sound quite common, don’t arrive with luxurious quality but rather with a decent touch of technology. This being said, the camera is not really the strong part of it, coming with an 8 megapixels resolution, but there we have the sapphire glass for the camera lens, which offers a decent quality to the pictures.

The audio feature works without a flaw, so you can have yourself a private party on the roof of that private villa of yours.

Next to the design, know that this sumptuous cutie has the Porsche logo embossed on a stainless steel panel on the top.

In terms of connectivity, things are better but not best. We are all aware of the lack of apps when it comes to Android for Blackberry but it seems that the guys made that right and Blackberry P’9983 benefits from more useful and entertaining apps this time.

The communication platform is truly the best, efficient, quick and most reliable.

Everything this device brings to the table comes at a pretty luxurious cost, namely 1400 £ that you’ll need to get rid of, in order to benefit from this Porsche signed device. Sales have been promising for the previous two models with more than 2000 units sold.

On your marks, get set, the iPhone 6 conference is coming!

We’re not letting our enthusiasm be curved by all the leaks and gossipy comments when it comes to the upcoming iPhone 6. We’re getting real with the iPhone 6 conference that is about to begin in just a few hours and you’ll be able to watch it entirely on http://www.apple.com/live/. It’s a true and verifiable fact that this huge event will unveil the following facts about the iPhone 6:

Two iPhone models will be launched, one with a screen of 4.7in and the other with a screen of 5.5in screen. As we previously unveiled, the new darlings will arrive with buttons on the sides. Also, it is pretty obvious that the larger device will cost more than the 4.7 in model.

The conference will surely unveil technical aspects also, such as the resolution which is known to be of 326 ppi for the 4.7 in model and of 461 ppi for the 5.5 inch one.

Both cellphones come with NFC capability via NXP chips, this being the first time Apple added NFC to its devices.

As far as the design facts are concerned, the finishing will be more rounded and without angular edges of the iPhone 4/4S.

The downside is that the wearable device won’t go for sale before next year so you can start putting money aside for your new investment plan.

The art of selfies from Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 seems to be one of the most anticipated high tech releases of this second half of the year. Rumor has it that this new delight will come in two variants, one powered by Quad Core Snapdragon 805 processor and the other equipped with an octo-core Exynos 5433 chipset. The most appealing news is nevertheless the emphasis they lay on the selfie craze. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is coming with a 16MP snapper that will turn your selfies into a true art of mirroring, sharing and enjoying…with certain praise from the others.

The good news doesn’t end here, as the Note 4 camera is said to feature optical image stabilization, which is prone to make things even easier for you. Also, the front facing camera of the enthusiastically expected Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be upgraded to 3.7 megapixels.

As far as the emerging art of selfies is concerned, Samsung is dedicating a complex set of features for it. The Galaxy Note 4 will have four new camera modes, three of which are dedicated to the art of the selfie: “Selfie” mode, “Wide Selfie,” “Selfie Alarm,” and “Create a GIF File.”

Most intriguing of those is Selfie Alarm, which allegedly makes it easier to take selfies with the phone’s superior rear-mounted camera by allowing it to automatically detect your face and snap the photo.
